WGBB is the nickname for the community of warm glass
artists that frequent www.warmglass.com to exchange techniques,
sources, jokes, and friendly conversation. As part of the general
jesting, Vancouver artist Brock Craig began giving away one of
his refrigerator magnets to the winner of his trivia contests.
This developed into a suggestion by Washington artist Els Gangloff
that we do a "frig magnet exchange". This quickly blossomed
into a rather large (116 artists) endeavour that saw 10,000 tiny
pieces of glass art land in Els' lap. These came from all across
Canada and the U.S. as well as Norway, Iceland, England, Brazil,
Argentina, Japan and Australia. Els divvied them up and sent each
contributor a collection of glass art that is amazing to the dedicated
glass fuser. The exchange is referred to as the "magnetlesses"
because the frig magnets came without any magnets (to save postage
and to avoid erasing scanners at the post office). It was so much
fun that this may become an annual event. Here are the magnets
that I sent in.
And here is the wonderful collection that I received.
